As we approach the end of the program, it’s time to take stock, and review your progress. In addition to reviewing your goals and what you’ve managed to change in habits, we also like to do this with some physical measurements, blood tests and body composition analysis.
This week, you’ll have your body composition analysis done to see how far you’ve come. You’ll see the changes in your muscle mass, body fat%, visceral fat as well as your metabolic rate. Looking at your metabolic rate will help to give you an idea of how many calories you’ll need to maintain this new weight or guide us as to how we can achieve further weight loss. It’s also important to check that you’ve at least maintained and hopefully built up some muscle mass.
Depending on your initial blood tests, you may require repeat testing to see if there have been improvements in obesity related conditions such as fatty liver, diabetes or pre diabetes, high cholesterol or kidney function.
If you’ve taken before photos and measurements at the outset, now is a good time to do your comparison measurements. Celebrate the wins, notice the differences and embrace this new you. Sometimes it can take time for your mind to catch up with the fact that your body has changed so much.
Preparing for maintenance means thinking about shopping and ensuring you pack into your trolley the most nutrient dense and lowest calorie foods you can! Hint: these foods are often around the perimeter of the shops and don’t come in packages. However, we have a module on reading food labels to assist you in making healthy decisions when shopping.
