Week 6 – Getting Nutrition Just Right

It’s week 6 and this week we are focusing on getting nutrition just right.

Eating Healthy foods doesn’t need to be boring. Below are some tips to help you with healthier food options along your journey:

Eat More Fresh Fruits and Vegetables

When you get a little hungry, instead of reaching for the high calorie snacks such as chocolate, chips and biscuits, have some fresh fruit or vegetables instead. A small handful of strawberries, a passionfruit, some slices of cucumber or celery sticks just to name a few. This will ease your hunger and make you feel good too!

Avoid the ‘Unhealthy’ Fats

Try to avoid adding saturated and trans fats to your meals, especially when cooking your foods. Instead of cooking with butter or margarine, try healthy fats such as 1-2 teaspoons of olive or canola oil. For flavour, avoid packaged sauces like stir-fry sauce, and replace with fat-free dressings, or get a little creative and explore different herbs and spices!

Eat more Protein

Sometimes a salad just doesn’t fill you up, but protein will! Protein can be added, such as some chickpeas or a hard-boiled egg to your salad, or just as a snack like a small handful of 4-5 almonds. It can also be a meal replacement, such as a high protein low carb shake or bar. By ensuring you have enough protein it will help you to feel full, suppress those cravings and help you eat less in the long run.
