Contrave Medication for Weight Loss

What is Contrave?

Contrave was approved for weight management purposes in Australia in 2019, developed by Professor Michael Cowley, from Monash University.. It comprises two active ingredients – bupropion hydrochloride (bupropion) and naltrexone hydrochloride (naltrexone). These two active ingredients target the area of a brain that helps to suppress appetite and control food cravings. It is typically prescribed for people with a BMI of 30+ or those with comorbidities, including type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.  Contrave is not suitable for ages 18 and below.

Contrave has been particularly effective for those who struggle with cravings or emotional eating, and those who may have mild depressive symptoms or excess alcohol intake.
