The festive season often comes with mixed emotions—connection, celebration, and joy, alongside pressure, guilt, or the feeling that health goals must be put on hold. At Alevia Medical Weight Loss, we believe Christmas can include pleasure and intention. Nourishment and enjoyment. Progress without perfection.
This Peach and Berry Meringue Cups recipe is a beautiful example of how food can be joyful, satisfying, and mindful—without needing to be labelled “good” or “bad.” It’s light, festive, and comforting, making it a wonderful option for those who want to enjoy dessert while staying connected to their health goals.
Why This Recipe Works for Your Christmas Goals
At just 180 calories per serve, this dessert proves you don’t need to choose between festive enjoyment and your progress.
The recipe harnesses the natural sweetness of summer stone fruit and berries, requiring minimal added sugar. The golden meringue topping provides that celebratory “special occasion” feel without the heaviness of traditional Christmas pudding or pavlova.
Nutritional breakdown per serve:
- 180 calories
- 2.5g protein
- 39g carbohydrates
You can reduce the carbohydrate content further by substituting monk fruit sweetener for caster sugar—perfect if you’re managing blood glucose levels or following a lower-carb approach.
A Christmas Dessert That Supports Self-Compassion
One of the biggest challenges our patients face during the festive season is the all-or-nothing thinking: “I’ve already had Christmas lunch, so I may as well abandon my goals entirely.”
This recipe offers a third option: full participation in Christmas traditions without compromising your wellbeing.
You’re not sitting out dessert while everyone else indulges. You’re enjoying something genuinely delicious that also happens to support your health goals. That’s what sustainable change looks like.
The Recipe: Peach and Berry Meringue Cups
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
- 3 yellow peaches (sliced, stone removed)
- Zest of half a lemon
- 300g frozen berries (any type, or mixed)
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 cup caster sugar (or monk fruit sweetener)
Method:
- Preheat oven to 200°C.
- In a saucepan, add peaches, lemon zest and berries with a tablespoon of water over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for approximately 3 minutes until fruit is softened.
- Divide mixture between 4 ramekins. Fill to 3/4 full to leave space for meringue topping. Set aside.
- Add egg whites to a deep mixing bowl and whisk with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add caster sugar while whisking until sugar dissolves completely.
- Gently spoon whisked egg whites onto the fruit mixture.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
- Optional: Add a side of Greek yoghurt for extra protein, or a small dollop of cream for special occasions.
This Christmas, Choose Progress Over Perfection
Celebrations don’t undo progress. Shame doesn’t create change. But support, education, and self-compassion do.
If you’re ready for a sustainable, medically supported approach to weight management—one that fits real life—we’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
From all of us at Alevia, we wish you a joyful, nourishing, and compassionate Christmas. 🎄✨
