GLP-1 Medications And Vision Loss: What The NAION Research Shows
A question I am being asked more frequently by patients is whether GLP-1 receptor agonist medications are associated with vision loss. The short answer is that the evidence is mixed and still developing. Some well-designed studies have identified an association between these medications and a rare eye condition called NAION. Other large observational studies have not found a statistically significant increase in risk. Australian and international regulators have reviewed the emerging evidence, and warnings about NAION have now been added to Australian Product Information across the GLP-1 receptor agonist class.
