Changes To Our Fee Structure

As we start to emerge from COVID-19 restrictions, the regulations around Telehealth consults and your medicare rebate have been changed by the Australian Government. This has flowed through to changes in our fee structure.

Our mission is to continue to provide a convenient and exceptional weight loss service to you so that you can achieve your health goals. Nothing is more important to us than the wellbeing of our patients, so if you are struggling financially please speak to your Alevia doctor.

For Metro Melbourne patients:

While Metro Melbourne is still in tighter COVID-19 Step 2 restrictions, we will continue bulk-billing all Melbourne patients for their TeleHealth appointment as per the Medicare regulations. However, this will only be enforced up until the 30th of September and new changes come into force on the 1st of October. After this date, you will be charged a private fee for which you can receive a Medicare rebate for your TeleHealth appointment, BUT only if you have had a face-to-face appointment with us in the last 12 months, otherwise you will be out of pocket the full upfront fee, as per the table below.

We are intending to begin face-to-face consultations in mid October (if COVID-19 restrictions allow it), so our priority will be getting you in for a face-to-face visit at that time so that you are then eligible for a Medicare rebate for ongoing TeleHealth appointments.

Meanwhile, before this is safe to arrange, our private fees for your TeleHealth appointments will apply, as per the following:

Appointment Length Upfront Fee Medicare Rebate* Out of Pocket
Standard consult (less than 20mins) $65 $38.75 $26.25
Long consult (between 20 and 40mins) $105 $75.05 $29.95
Initial consult (40+ mins) $135 $110.50 $24.50

*In order to be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you must have had an in-person consultation with us in the last 12 months or currently be living under Step 1 or Step 2 COVID-19 restrictions (as stipulated by the Victorian Government). If you do not currently meet these criteria, you will be out of pocket the full upfront fee.

For Regional Victoria Patients:

As of Wednesday the 16th of September, regional Victoria patients are now progressing out of COVID-19 restrictions and are in to Step 3 of the roadmap. While this is excellent news for regional communities, this does mean that due to the federal government’s Medicare rules, we cannot offer you a Medicare rebate for your TeleHealth appointment UNLESS you have had a face-to-face appointment with us in the last 12 months.

We are intending to begin face-to-face consultations in mid October (if COVID-19 restrictions allow it), so our priority will be getting you in for a face-to-face visits at that time so that you are then eligible for a Medicare rebate for ongoing TeleHealth appointments.

*In order to be eligible for a Medicare rebate, you must have had an in-person consultation with us in the last 12 months or currently be living under Step 1 or Step 2 COVID-19 restrictions (as stipulated by the Victorian Government). If you do not currently meet these criteria, you will be out of pocket the full upfront fee.

Patients Outside of Victoria

No changes will occur for our interstate patients and private fees will continue as per normal.

Our main priority is your health and wellbeing. We know that COVID-19 has affected people both from a health and financial perspective. If you are struggling financially then please discuss this with your doctor as we don’t want this to become a barrier to your care. As always, get in touch if you’d like to clarify any of the above with us.

Our New Headquarters

We have exciting news – we are opening our very own new headquarters in Wantirna, that has been under construction for the last few months while we have all been in lockdown. We are thrilled to be able to provide exceptional care to our patients in our own dedicated clinic and we are eager for you to see our brand new space very soon as COVID-19 restrictions lift.

If you require a face-to-face appointment down the track in order to become eligible for a Medicare rebate for ongoing TeleHealth appointments, your consult will be held at our Wantirna space on Mountain Highway. More information coming soon!

Our Transition to AutoMed

More exciting news! This week we are going live with AutoMed, our new online booking system. AutoMed’s system will help us to improve further on the following services:

  • Online bookings through our website
  • Collection and processing of payments more easily for patients paying private fees
  • SMS reminders, clinical results and recalls
  • Video conference appointments through the AMS Connect app

In particular, if you prefer video consultation appointments with your Alevia doctor (all except Nici Scheepers are available for video), you can complete the following steps in preparation for our transition this week:

  1. Download the AMS Connect app
  2. Search our clinic name
  3. Enter your details to register (this will sync with your existing record in Best Practice)
  4. You will then be able to view all of your upcoming appointments and book in as needed.
  5. If you have booked in a video consultation, then select “TeleHealth Appointments” from the menu at the time and you will see your video consultation details. Click to join and wait for your doctor to join the call too.

Get in touch with our reception team for further information or assistance.
